Steve Ballmer mentioned Windows Mobile 6.5 in a Telstra live webcast recently.  

A Motorola exec had recently mentioned 6.5 in a conference call which was one of the first times anyone in the general public had heard mention of this new iteration of Windows Mobile.   Most of us thought Windows Mobile 7 would be coming soon and there would be no more major versions of Windows Mobile as we are currently on Windows Mobile 6.1. 

As with many of Ballmer’s speeches, it was full of adjectives but no specifics or useful details.   It sounds like Windows Mobile 6.5 will be out next year – that gives a pretty large amount of wiggle room on delivery date.  No list of feature changes in the 6.5 flavor of Windows Mobile.  No delivery date or year even on Windows Mobile 7.   This is bad news for Microsoft as the iPhone is picking up a tremendous amount of the PDA phone market and now Google has released their first draft of a free OS Android.
