| Toshiba Unveils SCIB - Super Fast Charging Battery |
|
October 5, 2008
In Tokyo Japan, at CEATEC (a consumer electronics show), Toshiba showed off a prototype of a super fast charging battery.
While SCiB is used for heavier applications such as transportation, this technology could lend itself well to notebooks and other portable environments. The SCIB (Super Charge ion Battery), can charge to 90% capacity in just 10 minutes (requiring an additional 30 minutes to charge the remaining capacity). This would be extremely helpful at airport terminals for quick recharges of your battery just before getting on the plane and recharging should you use your notebook throughout the flight. In addition to having the super fast charge properties, the battery should have recharge capabilities in excess of 5 years whereas many current batteries only recharge well for a few years. We've heard a lot about various fast recharging batteries with high capacities such as carbon nanotube technology but this will probably be the first to market. Hopefully we'll see these as options on new laptops sometime next year and as replacements for our current laptops in the not too far distant future. Very little is has been officially announced as to the commercial release of these units or availability. Read the Full Article - AVING USA |
