Palm Taking Preorders on Unlocked Treo Pros |
|
September 9, 2008
Palm is taking preorders for an unlocked GSM version of the Windows Mobile 6.1 phone – the Treo Pro.
This looks like it very well may be the most successful Palm phone since the Palm OS based Centro released about a year ago. AT&T and GSM stand to benefit from early releases of unlocked phones; as gadget lovers will want the newest phone available the moment it is released, even if the carriers don’t profit on contract extensions. Verizon is still gaining customers in droves do to their great US coverage and reasonable customer satisfaction but I would guess they would gain even more customers if they offered the latest PDA phones sooner than other carriers. Unlocked phones however, has to be yet one more sore point for Sprint as they are hemorrhaging customers while nearly every other major carrier is gaining at least the same percentage that Sprint is losing each quarter according to reports on cellguru.net. Perhaps Dan Hess should consider unlocking the Sprint network and bringing back the excellent SERO discounts his company recently discontinued. Many of my clients have chosen to switch to AT&T just to get the iPhone now that it supports business-class e-mail, calendar and contact synchronization. Cell phones are a very personal piece of gadgetry you use every day for busines and personal use and customers want a phone that reflects their style and needs.
