The newest processor from Intel for PC workstations offers some significant performance improvements over the previous Core2 processor although not enough to replace your Core2.   The performance increases are in areas or applications that take advantage of multicore processing such as video editing or rendering.   While the performance improvements aren’t about to change the world for gamers, it might be a worthwhile investment for someone looking to replace an aging video editing system.  Since the processor uses a different physical socket than the Core2, you’ll be looking for a new x58 chipset motherboard.   The good news is that they’ll typically support both SLI and Crossfire for those looking to put in more than one video card.  I’ll probably wait until they start making motherboards with integrated USB 3.0 ports before upgrading my current PC.
