| Microsoft Gives OEMs More Time to Supply Windows XP |

Perhaps the new campaign for Vista isn’t convincing enough people that they want Vista over XP.
MS is getting enough demand to let OEMs sell restore disks so they can upgrade (or downgrade) to Windows XP after buying a system with Vista on it. So much demand that MS is extending that option for another six months. The merits of Vista are debatable as some people like the OS but most IT personnel seem to prefer XP. Every client I have who has purchased a Vista machine has asked me to switch them to XP. While I think Vista is a flop, I have great hope for Windows 7. Hopefully MS will make Windows 7 far less demanding than Vista is and also turn off indexing which slows both XP and Vista. Since Windows 7 is a rework of Vista, I don’t expect a major change until Window 8. I run Windows Server 2008 at home as a desktop OS which is far quicker than Vista.
