Lenovo Laptops to Get Remote Kill Command |
|
November 26, 2008
Lenovo Thinkpads will soon have a remote command to protect your data through SMS text messaging should your notebook get lost or stolen.
Lenovo and other laptop manufacturers are increasing the security on notebooks to help protect confidential data in the event the laptop is stolen or lost. Previously you could do this provided your notebook was attached to Wifi or a LAN internet connection. As long as the new Lenovo has GSM cellphone reception and you have a data plan for your notebook, you can shut down the unit making the encryption harder to bypass. Many cellphones have a similar function such as Windows Mobile that let you remote wipe all the data on your phone through an exchange server to protect the content.
