Intel's New i7 aka Nehalem Processor |
|
August 30, 2008
What’s Intel got coming to surpass their extremely successful Core 2 processor?
The answer is the i7 also known as the Nehalem processor.
Some of the major differences are:
1. It should be more energy efficient.
2. It will perform audio & video encoding/decoding faster, compression, database applications and other processor intense apps faster although it will probably not improve video game performance noticeably.
3. It will more effectively utilize memory by spanning accross modules. Using three 1 (or 2) GIG memory modules should be plenty for most users and give them the most effective use of their memory.
4. It will have a larger socket which means larger and more efficient CPU coolers and new motherboards will be required.
We should see the i7 available for desktops by the end of the year and i7 technology in notebooks by the first half of next year.
