Best Buy is selling preorders for the HTC Touch Diamond Windows Mobile 6.1 PDA Phone.
The phone is not carrier specific; so as long as your GSM carrier lets you put unlocked phones on your plan, you can use it. Sprint and Verizon have been slow to accept unlocked phones on their service but hopefully more national retailers offering unlocked GSM phones, it will encourage our two leading CDMA carriers to offer newer phones and a better selection. In Europe you select your plan and pick up whatever phone you want. In the US typically you are very limited to phones offered by your provider. AT&T and T-Mobile typically have allowed just about any phone you want to be put on their network – thus you can jailbreak an iPhone and put it on your T-mobile plan. If more merchants and phone manufacturers sold unlocked phones and companies such as Sprint and Verizon unlocked their networks, we would probably see lower phone prices with no contract renewals and we might actually get phones in the US while they aren’t a year obsolete. Europeans, Koreans and the Japanese enjoy cell phones that come out about a year before the US begins offering them. Please remember your carrier will not offer technical support for any phone you purchase that is not sold by them – but then again my experience with tech support typically involves you getting a new phone so you may want to make sure you can put the phone on your home owners insurance plan. The phone is significantly more than you will probably pay with your carrier as you won't have to sign a new contract to subsidize the phone.
