Dear Karen,
I wanted to thank you for all your help in our recent transition to the UCLA Enterprise Messaging System. As I can now take a look back on the whole process, it is clear that your contributions were key in facilitating a smooth conversion!
One of the many things that you did was to identify our consultant, Jim Millerick (Complete Systems Design) who proved to be extremely helpful in the immediate pre- and post-cut over time periods. Jim participated in a number of aspects of the project, and I felt that it would be appropriate to comment on our experience with him.
In the pre-cutover period, Jim played a key role in the hiring and training of our transition team student employees, and they proved to be a very talented and helpful group of individuals. He also advised us on issues such as timing and communications with our faculty and staff, leading to adjustments that turned out to be important to the process. For example, on his advice we moved the actual cutover time from Saturday night to Friday night. The rationale was to allow us to take advantage of the weekend time when we had our transition team available to configure computers, and to give us some leeway in time in case of any major problems. As it turned out we didn’t have any major problems and we were able to maximize on the weekend configurations, which I believe greatly facilitated the conversion.
Jim was similarly exceptionally helpful in the post-cutover period. He was here first thing Monday
morning, providing superb guidance on prioritizing and coordinating our user contacts. This was
particularly helpful in reassuring our large number of users that we were there to assist them in the transition, as well as in identifying and solving the few problems that arose. Throughout the process Jim proved to be a very valuable resource to our faculty and staff with any issue that they raised. He is very knowledgeable in all things IT, and on the rare occasion that he didn’t have an answer he researched the issue and got back to the individual.
I hope that I have conveyed the message that Jim was tremendously helpful in our EM conversion. I thank you for recommending him, and strongly encourage you to continue to do so for other units undergoing this process!
